Biography - Matt Mandle

Matt has been involved in fitness for the past 12 years. Starting with his time in basic training for the United States Coast Guard, Matt threw himself headfirst into a scenario where he had to push himself to his limits both mentally and physically.

With this growing and solid foundation, Matt progressed into bodybuilding in order to learn more about anatomy, weightlifting, and the proper form associated with the wide array of creative movements the sport encompasses. During this time, Matt volunteered as a military unit fitness coordinator – where he trained people placed on the military’s weight program, assisting them in meeting their weight requirements, as well as setting up fitness events so the crew could partake in team activities. Matt also readily trained his colleagues on proper form, training methodologies, and nutritional advice. During this time Matt certified as a personal trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning association (NSCA), and subsequently worked as a personal trainer for a big box gym. This provided Matt with the opportunity to start working with a wide variety of clientele.

After leaving the Coast Guard in 2015, Matt made the decision to pursue a life surrounded by activity as both a hobby and a future career path, pressing on and pursuing his B.S. in Kinesiology. Matt graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2018 from California State University East Bay. He is well equipped to train those with specific sport related goals or those who need help increasing their efficiency during their regular activities of daily living. His education, prior certification, and background experience give him the necessary skills to work with a very wide array of clientele; having worked both with those in a rehabilitation setting, during his recent time as a physical therapy aide, as well as with those with more ambitious sport related goals as a personal trainer.

Matt made a personal transition from bodybuilding into the sport of powerlifting and utilized his understanding of biomechanical principles in order to focus on and perfect three of the most important movement patterns surrounding our daily lives: the squat, bench press, and deadlift. It was during these formative years in powerlifting that Matt developed his strong interest in physical therapy and rehabilitation – noticing strong similarities between strength training and the physical longevity of those who partook in the sport. He is now a student at University of the Pacific in their Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

He has since progressed through his time powerlifting into the world of endurance sport and trains running, swimming, and cycling in the hopes of besting his triathlon times, all while maintaining the foundational strength and mobility work he knows is so important.

Programming

Education is paramount when it comes to getting the most out of your physical activity. With the proper knowledge, anyone can accomplish the goals they set into motion – so long as they maintain the proper level of dedication those very goals require.

I have both the education and background to get you to where you want to be; whether you need to be educated on the science behind what works, on what is the newest fad scam, or you need that person in your life to continually motivate and challenge you.

Programming is individual, and because of this no two people will require the same routine. I will focus my programming on you specifically – your inherent weaknesses that need to be rebuilt in order to get you moving and performing optimally are always the initial focus, and then we branch out from there.

My programming can focus on strength, mobility, circuit training, and more. Whether you want to improve your golf swing, your triathlon performance, or build your deadlift, I can help you accomplish your goals.
